Setup Wireless Network in Vista

  • Turn on the desktop and laptop computers, and let them start up completely.
  • In the lower left hand corner (taskbar), you will see 2 computers (boxes). Most likely they have an red "x" over them. We are going to work to change all that by clicking on them.
  • These boxes may now say "wireless networks available." You can click connect or disconnect or go to the network sharing center from these choices.
  • If you wish to connect to an existing network and you know what name you gave the home network, this will make it easier. If it is "security enabled," it will prompt you for a network key.
  • Enter the network key in the area carefully. Check the box to display the characters so you know what you are typing.
  • Double-click on Microsoft Internet Explorer to ensure you can connect to a website and the Internet.
